Emmanuel Discipleship Academy

Developing Disciple-Making Leaders who disciple individuals and transform communities.

The Gap

Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world, with 78% of its population under 30 years old (UBOS, 2020). It also has a high youth unemployment rate of 13.3%, which is above the average national unemployment rate of 9.2% (UBOS, 2021) and this is primarily contributed by the theoretical nature of Uganda’s education system which is failing to produce products that are skilled to provide services that are needed in their very own communities. Because of this, the country producing more learned people in different institutions than it can employ. However, we still have one of the highest unemployment rates, but also unemployable young people due to a lack of skills and proper mentorship that would help young adults to cope with the ever-fluctuating Ugandan economy.Additionally, poverty levels in Uganda currently stand at 30.1% according to Uganda Bureau of Statistics, which directly implies that to alleviate this, an effect must be made among the youths because according to the global economy statistics, 80.59% of Youths in Uganda are literate.
This is all a result of the lack of hands-on and employable skills that help most of the youth stay active in producing services that help them not only earn a living but also positively change their communities.

OUR APPROACH

Founded in 2020, Emmanuel Discipleship Academy (EDA) trains and equips young adults especially those who have not continued with formal education, but who carry a strong desire to grow, serve, and lead positive change within their communities. EDA provides a nurturing environment where these young men and women are prepared spiritually, mentally, and practically to influence society with purpose and integrity.

The Dreamer’s Burden

The young adults between 20 and 35 are always on the verge of making permanent decisions that influence their lives, thus even changing the nation of Uganda and the world. According to UNFPA, 34.6 million of these are adolescents with a similar sex distribution. The people they depend on are largely unskilled or even educated, without the capacity to show their children the way due to illiteracy, poverty, and the lack of a mentor. The future of Uganda and the world is in the hands of the younger generation. If we do not empower, train, teach, equip, and transform them to live a life that transforms the local community and ultimately the world at large, our fathers will leave but just a forest of old trees minus saplings. Therefore, the Ugandan community will face four major problems: Leadership crisis, Unskilled youths, Untamed young adults, and a big unemployment gap. Every empowerment, mentorship, and skilling program needs Time, relationships, and intentionality to be impactful.
